Dry Mounting
The term dry mounting refers to the adhering of photographs, inkjets, or other flat copy, without the use of water based adhesives, to rigid materials (substrates) which gives them extra strength for display and framing purposes. At Kula Photo we use a hot mount / pressure method to insure a secure and permanent bond between the print and substrate.
Substrates Available for Mounting
CARDSTOCK - paper stock coated both sides with white facing and available in either 2 ply (approx. 1/16 inch thick) or 4 ply (approx. 1/8 inch thick). Used mostly in small size point of purchace displays or for framing with shallow depth frames.
FOAMCORE - styrene foam material faced with white paper stock. Our foamcore is 3/16 inches thick and is quite economical for short term usage of poster sized displays. The surface can easily be dented and warpage can often occur after a short period of time. This substrate is also not water resistent.
WHITE CORED NATURAL GATORBOARD - high density white foam filled panels faced with laminated kraft paper front and back. Ideal for most any application where longevity of the print is required. All boards are rigid and the surface cannot be dented. The 1/2 inch and 3/4 thick boards are generally warp free and are water resistent.
BLACK CORED GATORBOARD - high density black foam filled panels faced with laminated black paper front and back. These substrates have the properties of the above white cored gator boards and are particularly useful for free-hanging prints and artwork without framing when mounting hooks are attached to the back of these boards. The black edge of the board gives a truly rich look to any print mounted on it.

A $3.00 charge per item mounted will be added to the above prices for each additional image mounted on the same piece of substrate. Also a $5.00 charge will be added for positioning of an image on a larger mounting substrate.
Cardboard double wing easels are available to support mounted items up to 16x20 inches in size at a cost of $2.50 per easel. Mounted items above 16x20 inches up to and including 30x40 inches are priced at $5.00 each. These easels are ideal for counter top displays.
Metal hook and wire attachments for free hanging mounted prints without the need for framing are priced at $3.50 per board. This service is not available on cardstock substrates. If a more permanent display is required please see our Custom Framing section.
Lamination
The lamination service offered at Kula Photo is known as Cover Lamination and is used to protect the surface of your prints from airborne contaminants or various liquids that may fall on them. Because these laminates are no thicker than 3 mil they cannot be used to make a print rigid. If rigidity is required, the print should first be dry mounted (see above). All of our laminates have UV inhibitors in them to further protect prints from light exposure. These laminates are available in three surfaces: Glossy, Matte, and Satin Lustre.
Cover laminates can only be applied to unmounted material that measures 36 inches by 48 inches or less in size.
